Refugees in Geneva face two main barriers to integration:
Social stigma and access to employment.
The majority of refugees in Geneva are legally permitted to work. However, employers are frequently unaware of this as the phrasing on their Permis F is misleading, stating that they are “provisionally admitted”.

While waiting for their Permis F status to change to Permis B, refugees who would be able to make positive contributions to society are locked into dependency and stigmatisation. They are unjustly perceived to be burdens instead of being recognized as the assets they are and the skills they bring. Herein, a vicious cycle of entrenched dependency and lost potential is unnecessarily created.
